The Protection Shields Workshops © is an art project to promote self-healing through assemblage art. The three-hour workshops provide space to share experiences in safety as the art is crafted. A Protection Shield item can be created individually or as a group creation. We provide all required materials. Additional personal and special memento and keepsake items of participants are encouraged. An ideal workshop is 15 participants per session. However, we have worked successfully with larger numbers but found a follow-up workshop to be necessary.
The palm frond is considered sacred medicine once used in ancient cultures. The inner journey in the calming therapy to calm the mind and release negative energies through the creation of a unique piece of art is an empowerment tool for participants to reflect and build upon.
After an automobile accident,I was emotionally, mentally and spiritual traumatized. I made the decision to create my way out of the depression and turmoil. The result is the collection of seventy-five unique assemble Protection Shield pieces created in a period of eighteen months. These Protection Shields have been on display at the Phoebe Hearst Museum of Anthropology at Cal Berkeley, and other locations across the Bay Area.
We view the Protection ShieldWorkshops © as an inspiration to promote self-awareness and self-healing in a safe, creative environment and to supplement schools and communities in the delivery of mental health services.
